Hey everyone! I was tagged by Liz from Liz of Words to do this tag, so let’s get into it! It feels weird writing a post about myself – I don’t think I’ve ever written anything about myself here.
This awesome tag was created by Ellyn (Allonsythornraxx).
1 WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING & WHY HAVE YOU KEPT BLOGGING?
This one’s a long story. I have been blogging since 2008. I have always been a lover of books and all things literary. But I did not start my blogging journey as a reader, it was as a writer. I was a huge fan of Ruskin Bond (and will forever be) and loved the way he wrote about the normal day-to-day life in the hills of India with such beauty. Inspired by him, and heartbroken by the declaration that Pluto is no longer be a planet (I am still salty about it), I wrote a long-ass story. This was the start of my blogging journey. My mom already had a blog of her own, so she helped the 9 year old me set up my own blog – Shreeya’s Blog. I blogged there for many years – book reviews, my write-ups, my art, calligraphy and any other random stuff. I started this separate blog in August 2018 with the intent of doing things in a more structured and organized manner. I also wanted to interact with other bloggers and book reviewers instead of just talking to myself. So here we are!
Now, why have I kept at it? I like talking about books and I love seeing all these amazing bloggers talk about the books they’re reading. I never treat blogging as a job (maybe I should?), I post whenever I want. I could go months without posting anything. So it has always been a way to unwind, never something I stressed over.
2 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TYPE OF BLOG POST TO WRITE?
I want to say reviews, but I take wayyy too long writing them, something days researching, re-reading, writing, deleting, and then writing again. Book tags and lists take far less time and are really fun to do! (I am procrastinating writing a review right now)
3 WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE BLOG POSTS?
1984 | Book Review : In my personal opinion, this is the best review I have written, and also the one that took the most time. I loved every single aspect of this book and it left me with so many thoughts. I am happy with the way the review turned out, totally not all over the place, as I was expecting it to be.
Tolkien Book Tag | Hobbit Day Special : I loved doing this tag! It brought back so many memories of reading Tolkien for the first time and falling in love with Middle Earth.
Chowringhee by Sankar | Book Review : This is another review I am really proud of, and another book I really love
4 WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO TO RELAX?
After a stressful day, if I am not too tired, I like to put on some music and dance to it. Sometimes, if I don’t feel like dancing, I sing along and dance in my mind. Reading is experimentally proven to relax me a lot if uni becomes too burdensome.
5 WHAT ARE 3 OF YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS?
(Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…)
My weathered copies of The Hobbit and The Complete Sherlock Holmes
My art supplies
Street food – Haven’t had any in more than 2 months. I miss it so much. Everything else you can make at home, but that feeling of standing at the roadside stall, eating the chaat? Uff. Cannot recreate.
6 WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST BLOGGING MOMENTS?
Right now – I just reached 200 followers on WordPress! Yay! Thank you to all of my followers, it means a lot!
7 WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING?
I have too many hobbies and that creates a ton of anxiety in my life. Dancing is the love of my life, has been since I was little. I grab at any excuse to get up and start dancing. Another hobby is acting. I am a part of my college’s dramatics society and it has given me some of the best memories of college. Through dancing school and dramatics society, I acquired a new hobby – to play musical instruments like the harmonium, glockenspiel, goblet drum, manjira (Indian cymbals) and Indian drum. I also love to draw, paint, doodle and sketch.
8 DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY IN 3 WORDS
Empathetic. Tired. Patient (Most of the times)
9 WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 PET PEEVES
People who walk into the metro and stand right in front of the door + those who play really loud music/games (Have you not heard of earphones, people?)
People who say “literally” when what they mean is not literal
Indian youngsters saying the n-word and replacing the ‘g’ with a ‘b’ to sound cool. I want to punch them in the faces. I have soft-blocked so many people on Instagram because they Just. Won’t. Stop!
10 WHAT’S SOMETHING YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
There is so much! I don’t put any personal posts here (maybe I should change that).
I am trained in Kathak – a form of Indian classical dance.
Oh, and I am a year away from becoming a Biotechnology graduate. I want to get a Ph.D. and become a researcher or a professor.
